Know any over-the-top rich to-be 16-year-olds who also care about the environment? Or who at least want to get on the Green Train?

Boulder-based Spicer’s Events has been approached by MTV’s Super Sweet 16 show to organize an eco-friendly Sweet 16, Quinceanera or Coming Out event.
Spicer’s is currently searching for the perfect “eco-chic” to fit the bill.

Super Sweet 16 is “gives you an up close and very personal look at the extravagant and sometimes extreme measures teens take to ensure that this milestone in their lives is commemorated by the ultimate celebration. Will their real life Sweet 16 ever live up to their fantasies?”

This is our society: A new cartoon book to teach children about mommy’s new plastic surgery.
In the book, the mother explains to her child that her new nose will be different — it will be “prettier.” In other words, mommy is not pretty enough as she is, and neither are you. This book primes children for their own nose jobs someday, normalizing it.
Couldn’t the book have instead stated that mommy would feel more confident and be able to breathe better after her surgery, not just look prettier? Can’t we at least pretend to have a soul?

It’s getting warmer. That means it’s time to bring our bodies in for some regular maintenance: a soak, scrub, buff and shine, pluck and polish. I might bring out my sledgehammer and power washer, too.

Did you know Ten20 Spa in Boulder offers Lousy Weather Discount Days?
E-mail weather@ten20.com and they will send you a note when it qualifies as a snow day.
Also, 5-7 p.m. every Wednesday, Ten20 shows “girl movies.” You know, love, twirling, dreams, romance, la de da. Oh yeah, and of course catfights, tears, break-ups…
The movie selection includes “13 going on 30,” “Sleepless in Seattle” and “Raising Helen.” Personally, I am waiting for the “Babysitters Club.”

I just moved on Sunday to an old beauty parlor converted into a house in Denver. The fashion inspiration is built into my walls. While unpacking my poorly packed clothes (I had a contest with friends who could cram the most into boxes in 30 seconds because I didn’t start packing until 8 p.m. the night before I had to be out), I noticed that I had very few items I had bought new. The overwhelming majority of my clothes were vintage or had been bought used. There are so many well organized and quality second-hand shops in Boulder, I can rarely think of an occasion that I need to buy something new. OK, underwear, bras, tights and earrings. But something about new dresses, jackets, necklaces and skirts seems so boring — and predictable. Sort of like moving into a tract home versus an old beauty parlor.

Consignment stores, such as Rags in Boulder (3129 28th St.), have noticed a happy boost in sales thanks to earth-friendly initiatives that have more shoppers recycling their clothes and buying used. Groups like The Compact made their 2008 resolution to borrow, barter or buy used. This helps lower production costs, the use of natural resources and consumerism in general, according to Rags’ spokeswoman.Want to feel even better about shopping?
* Rags donates all unused items to charity.
* The first Friday of every month the store gives 5 percent of sales to nonprofits, such as the homeless shelter, Dairy Center for the Arts or Emergency Family Assistance Association.
