Fashion tips from stylist Rachael Shayne (www.rachaelshayne.com):

Beware of light-colored jeans. Make sure they’re not too short, or it’ll make you look bigger. To look long and slim, wear dark jeans — regardless of what is “in” at the moment —  and make sure they’re the right length.

Be colorful. So many women wear black and grey and carry black handbags. The easiest way to inject some style into your look is with colorful accessories. Get a few bangles and necklaces. With the price of silver and gold so high right now, plastic jewelry is hot. Look for vintage-style lucite and chunky pieces (check Urban Outfitters). Vintage is awesome; if you have any of your grandma’s old jewelry, rock it out.

Instead of a black bag, get a soft metallic one. Don’t be afraid of prints. You can still wear your greys and blacks, but mix in color, such as bright yellow accents.
Color makes people look fresh. It makes your eyes brighter.

Summer-ize your outfit by adding in skirts. Women look amazing in skirts and dresses — the shape is universally more flattering than pants or shorts – yet women still don’t wear them enough. Skirts are so accessible, at all different price points. A skirt should hit right below or above your knee. Pair it with a little wedge heel and you have instand summer. You can dress a skirt up or down.
